Macy's Will be Closed Thanksgiving 2020, Open Black Friday

Macy's won't be open on Thanksgiving this year. The department store has officially announced that it will be closed on Thanksgiving 2020.

With this news, Macy's follows other major chains, including Walmart, Home Depot Best Buy, JCPenney and many more that will remain closed on Thanksgiving.

Until this year, Macy's Thanksgiving tradition has been to open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving night and stay open until 2 a.m. -- and then open up early (6 a.m.) on Black Friday.

The release didn't indicate if Macy's plans also apply to Bloomingdale's, which is owned by Macy's Inc.

Macy's Black Friday plans

Macy's announcement also reveals some details about its Black Friday plans. Macy's stores will be open on Black Friday (Nov. 27). Customers can shop in stores, use contactless curbside pickup or use buy online, pick up in store. However, on Black Friday (and for the entire holiday season), Macy's will continue its social-distancing and safety policies.

Macy's did not share if it plans to offer specific Black Friday deals in stores, nor did it announce its Black Friday hours.
